Introducing another exclusive from MAHLE Motorsports, the GoldSeries PowerPak for the Honda S2000, available for the 2.0L and 2.2L engines in boosted and normally aspirated applications. MAHLE’s exclusive GoldSeries skirt coating allows the PowerPak forged pistons to be run in the Honda S2000 Fiber Reinforced Matrix cylinder bores without the need to sleeve the engine block. MAHLE’s new piston assembly kit for the Theta L-4 Turbo engine provides 8.5:1 compression for 86mm standard bore with the stock rod and stroke. Designed as a power generating, race ready kit, the PowerPak comes complete with 1.2mm, 1.2mm, 2.8mm steel nitrated rings, 22mm (103g) high quality steel wrist pins and round wire locks.

These high expansion 2618 aluminum alloy pistons grant higher tolerances with additional support to extreme-duty racing. As a result, we’ve been able to introduce features like Finish Machined Pin Bores, Ultra Flat Ring Grooves, Slipper Skirt Forgings, and Grafal® Skirt Coatings. Here’s why they are so important:

Finish Machined Pin Bores
Piston failures can often be traced back to poor and inconsistent pin bore quality or design. The pin bores on every MAHLE Motorsport piston are finish machined using CNC equipment specially designed and manufactured by MAHLE to precisely control shape, size and alignment. This added control allows for advanced designs and flexibility, resulting in unmatched consistency and performance.

Ring Grooves
Every MAHLE Motorsport piston is machined to exacting tolerances with focused attention given to the radial flatness of the ring grooves. A flat ring groove is essential in achieving and maintaining the best seal possible. The quality of the ring grooves is so critical to peak and lasting performance, that MAHLE designed and built the machinery used to machine the ring grooves for its Motorsports piston assemblies. Combined with ultra flat MAHLE rings that are included in every PowerPak piston kit, MAHLE delivers the formula for the best sealing power cell on the market.

Slipper Skirt Forgings
MAHLE uses strong, lightweight, low drag forgings in every PowerPak piston kit. Not all piston manufacturers can make that claim. A Slipper Skirt forging offers many benefits over the standard “Full Round”design, but the technology runs much deeper than looks alone. These benefits are only achieved through the proper management of the design; any misapplication can result in a similar looking part with poor performance.

Grafal Skirt Coatings
MAHLE’s proprietary Grafal® anti-friction skirt coating is like no other on the market. It is graphite impregnated to reduce drag like many other skirt coatings, but this is where the similarities end. The screen print application provides superior adhesion and is designed to last 100,000+ miles. Because Grafal® is a compressible membrane with a unique cushioning property, harsh contact between the piston skirt and the bore is dramatically reduced. This results in much less wear on the bore and significantly reduces piston skirt fatigue.

MAHLE, always with its pulse on the race scene, is pleased to now offer a Twisted Wedge PowerPak piston kit. Utilizing the unique chamber and valve angles of a Twisted Wedge head is a relatively easy and affordable way to add up to 100 more horsepower. However, typical small block pistons will not work with this unique head design. That is why MAHLE has developed the Twisted Wedge PowerPak, a complete race ready piston kit that perfectly complements to these unique canted valve heads. The kit comes complete with deburred, dual coated pistons, ultra flat 1.5, 1.5, 3mm low drag rings, high grade German steel wrist pins, and race proven round wire locks.

Designed for sportsman class racing, MAHLE’s Twisted Wedge pistons are forged from high strength MS124 aluminum alloy, recognized for its ability to provide excellent piston and cylinder wall wear characteristics. CNC machined, precision pin fitting for either .927 or .912 high quality wrist pins and forced pin oiling are standard features of the PowerPak, as well as MAHLE’s phosphate and Grafal® piston coatings. The dry film phosphate coating that gives MAHLE pistons their characteristic gray color resists microwelding in the ring grooves and galling in the pin bores. The pistons receive extensive deburring before shipment for installation right out of the box. The PowerPak Plus Series are currently available for the LS1/2/6 engine in a dome configuration, the Subaru, 2.5 liter STI Turbo, and the 4.6 liter/5.4 liter Modular Ford and the 4.6 liter, 3 valve Modular Ford.

Forged from MAHLE’s proprietary MSP25 alloy for added strength, they are then dual coated first with a phosphate dry film lubricant to protect the pin bores and ring grooves against microwelding and galling and then MAHLE’s exclusive Grafal® piston skirt coating which prevents scuffing and frictional drag, while reducing cylinder bore and piston wear.
