Each year the Hot Rod Power Tour takes cities by storm as thousands of hot rodders and enthusiasts, also know as Long Haulers, participate in the Hot Rod Power Tour. One thing that is always a highlight is the Dyno Challenge. This year’s Dyno Challenge, brought to you by Lucas Oil and E3 Spark Plugs, was no exception. E3 Spark Plugs Congratulates Robert Stout on his Historic Toyota Long Beach Grand Prix Win!

E3 Spark Plugs sponsored Robert Stout, of Brownsburg, Ind. has won the Touring Car class race at the Toyo Tires World Challenge at Long Beach Presented by Bondurant. At just over 18 years of age, the win makes him the youngest winner in World Challenge. He started second in class, but grabbed the lead from pole sitter Nick Wittmer by the first time past the line. By lap seven his lead was stretched to over 10 seconds and he raced to a 19.666-second margin of victory.

“I felt like I got off to a decent start,,” Stout said. “I worked my way around Nick [Wittmer] a lap or so after the start. I heard he had some problems over the radio. I knew I had a pretty good gap over second place at that point and I tried to take it as easy as I could.”

Even with the big lead, the end of the race had a couple of nervous moments for Stout.

“With about 10 laps to go, I started to have some problems with the left rear,” he said. “I didn’t even know if I was going to make it, so I really tried to take it easy through the right handers. But the car came through and we made a first place finish. This is one of the biggest races in the world. I couldn’t ask for anything more than to win at Long Beach.”

Stout’s win allows him to inherit the Touring Car Drivers’ Championship lead with 350 points. Meyer (281), Todd Buras (264), and Gardner (263) trail Stout after three of 12 races. The race from Long Beach will be broadcast May 1 at 4:30 p.m. (EDT) on Versus.

Compared to older competitive designs, E3 Spark Plugs’ patented DiamondFire technology was recently and conclusively proven to provide more rapid and robust combustion by research engineers at Michigan Technological University.

In reality, spark plug technology hasn’t changed much since the original “J-Wire” side-wire electrode was developed and patented in 1904 and used in the Model T Ford. Real-time combustion images were captured during advanced testing methods employed at Michigan Tech, a nationally-acclaimed automotive research facility, to show a comparison between conventional competitive designs and E3’s revolutionary DiamondFire technology. The images prove that E3′s “diamond-shaped” side-wire electrode projects the combustion spark in a way that more quickly ignites the air/fuel mixture, thereby creating a significantly faster and larger flame kernel.

In effect, this burns more of the available fuel, resulting in increased combustion efficiency for improved power and fuel economy with reduced emissions.

“I have had an active role in the automotive industry for about forty years, so new technology surprises are rare to me. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the scientific data from Michigan Tech when they tested the new E3 technology”, stated Jim McFarland, veteran automotive engineer, and Research consultant for E3.

While conducting engine dyno tests comparing E3 technology to competitive brands, Jeremy Worm, lead Research Engineer for the Advanced Power Systems Research Center at Michigan Tech stated, “We found that the E3 spark plug produces a faster burn, especially in the early stages of the combustion process. In an engine, the early burn duration translates to the stability of the combustion process. By making that early burn more stable, we can run more dilution in the cylinder, and that directly translates into improved engine efficiency.”

Geico AMA Endurocross to Present the E3 Spark Plugs EnduroCross Pro Junior Championship

E3 Spark Plugs recently announced it has teamed with the Geico AMA EnduroCross Series to create a new E3 Spark Plugs EnduroCross Pro Junior Championship to honor young, up-and coming stars of the sport.

“Working in cooperation with the AMA, we’ve developed a classification program for pro EnduroCross racers ages 16 to 21 that builds a series-within-a-series to help elevate the status of our younger GEICO EnduroCross Series racers,” said Source Interlink Media’s Mike Karsting. “These racers will all compete for the GEICO AMA EnduroCross Pro Junior Championship and the AMA’s No.1 plate that goes with it.”

This new championship will allow younger drivers, like 19-year-old Colton Haaker, the current E3 Spark Plugs’ Pro Junior EnduroCross points leader, and others to continue to gain fan attention as the series ramps up for the remainder of this racing season.

Rushing to make the event in time, Kevin and Jon Probst participated in the inaugural event in Primm, NV, on April 4th & 5th. “It was a last minute decision to go west and race the opener for E3 Spark Plugs,” said Kevin Probst. “We were not planning to race this early in the year but when Lucas Oil and E3 Spark Plugs asked us out, we were delighted.”

E3 Spark Plugs Involved in Tightening EPA Emissions Standards

E3 Spark Plugs with DiamondFIRE Technology is proud to announce that it is the only spark plug available today that is recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a supplemental emissions technology device. This is due to the recent EPA testing, in which E3 was involved, that pushed the government to tighten emissions standards for new gasoline-powered lawn mowers, weed trimmers, and boat engines, requiring those engines to reduce the amount of smog-causing pollution they are allowed to emit.

Due to E3’s reputation in the lawn and garden market for improving power and reducing emissions, they were among a small group of product manufacturers selected to take part in the EPA testing. It’s E3’s unique forged ground electrode that ensures the fastest, most complete burn of the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder resulting in a 3-13% increase in fuel economy, up to 58% reduction in CO and hydrocarbon emissions, and a 6-12% improvement in horsepower, depending on engine class, when utilized under typical operations.

“EPA’s new small engine standards will allow Americans to cut air pollution as well as grass,” EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson said in a statement. “These standards help fight smog in our neighborhoods and waterways as we continue to improve the environmental landscape.”

The new EPA regulations will take effect in 2010 and 2011. Once fully implemented, all of the new standards together will eliminate emissions totaling 600,000 tons of hydrocarbons, 130,000 tons of nitrogen oxide and 1.5 million tons of carbon monoxide annually. Hydrocarbons and nitrogen-oxide are well known for contributing to ground-level ozone deterioration, or smog, which can cause respiratory illness and even death. Ground-level ozone also contributes to global warming, ranking as the third-biggest greenhouse gas generated by human activity.

Studies show that one riding lawn mower emits as much pollution in an hour as 34 cars. Environmentalists have also noted that the move would help protect the environment and promote energy efficiency. Because spark-ignition engines release as much as 25 percent of their gas unburned in their exhaust, the EPA also estimates that the regulations, when fully implemented, will lead to a more efficient combustion process that will save about 190 million gallons of gasoline each year.

“We were proud to participate in the EPA testing and we know that our product is helping to lead the charge in the fight for cleaner air,” said E3 Spark Plugs President Todd Arey. “At E3, our goal is to continuously strive to achieve better engine efficiency, which leads to less waste and more fuel savings. We are happy with our products current results but we will never quite striving for even better.”

The new EPA regulations, which were originally scheduled to come out by the end of 2005, apply to lawn and garden equipment of 25 horsepower or less, as well as to golf carts and all gas-powered personal watercraft and inboard and outboard boat engines.

Before Round III of the 2008 World Series of Off-Road Racing’s (WSORR) Pro 2WD series at the Big House, the Crandon Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin, Team Lucas/E3 Spark Plugs sponsored driver Kevin Probst decided he was going to take the race from the very beginning. Kevin, in his E3 Spark Plugs/Dixie Choppers/Lucas Oil/Toyo Tires Chevrolet Silverado, pulled a hole shot around the famous Potawatomi turn one and never looked back cruising to a 8-second win in front of a very fast field.

“Probst absolutely had this field covered,” said Doug Davis, general manager of WSORR. “He was the fastest off-roader on the planet today, nobody from Guam to Dakar to Baja to California was going to catch him.”

After his spectacular crash in Round I at the E3 Show-Me-State Showdown in Wheatland, Missouri on June 1st, Kevin was able to drive his yellow and white truck to a second place finish in Round II. After his win in Round III on Saturday Kevin was able to finish second again in Round IV on Sunday, putting him tied for the points lead for the Pro 2WD season championship.

“The new truck is working great,” said Kevin. “Our truck last year was good too but the one this year seems to be running even better and I definitely think I can contend for the championship this season. Who knows, maybe it’s just the recent paint scheme with the huge E3 logos. I’m definitely getting used to the look and hope I can take it to the end.”
